Talk about your hometown.

Mention of one's hometwon can make anyone feel sentimental. Returning to one's hometown after years have passed brings back a lot of memories.

I visit my hometown two or three times a year. I usually go once in the spring and once in the winter on the anniversaries of my parents' deaths. When I pass by the house I grew up in, I remember my childhood years. I often stand there for a while and look back on those memories. The same goes for the church I went to.
​
When I go to my old elementary school, the building and schoolyard that seemed so big back then seem very small now. I once went inside to see the classrooms, and it gave me a pang. I think hometowns are places that give someone the gift of memories this way.

고향에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

누구든 고향이라는 말을 들으면 마음이 아련해진다. 세월이 지나서 고향을 방문하면 여러 가지 추억들이 떠오른다.

나는 일 년에 두세 번 정도 고향에 간다. 주로 봄과 겨울에 한 번씩 부모님 기일에 간다. 예전에 내가 자랐던 집 앞을 지나칠 때면, 어린 시절 기억들이 떠오른다. 한동안 그곳에 멈춰 서서 그 기억들을 되새기곤 한다. 내가 다녔던 교회도 마찬가지이다.

내가 다녔던 초등학교에 가 보면, 당시에는 그렇게 웅장했던 학교 건물과 운동장이 지금은 어찌나 작게 보이는지 모른다. 교실에도 한번 들어가 봤는데, 마음이 찡하기까지 했다. 고향은 누구에게나 이러한 추억을 선물하는 곳인 것 같다.
