Talk about Braille system for the visually impared.

You don't just use your eyes to read and to see text. There is a writing system that you can read using your hands. It's called Braille, which is intended for the visually impared. Braille is a system of characters, formed by arranging six dots in a certain way. Those who can't see can feel the dots with their fingers, and read without any help.

Braille was first invented in the early 1800s. The person who first came up with the idea was Louis Braille, a teacher at the National institute for Blind in Paris. The system was named after him.

King sejong the great created Hangul, a writing system tailored to the Korean languge. Park du-seoung, a teacher at the Seoul National School for the Blind, created the Korean Braille system in the 1920s. The system created a sea change in the lives of the visually impared. For example, it enabled them to finally cast a vote as citizens of Korea.

시각 장애인을 위한 점자에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

눈으로만 글을 읽고 볼수 있는 것은 아니다. 손으로 읽을 수 있는 문자 체계가 있다. 바로 시각 장애인을 위한 문자인 '점자'이다. 점자는 6개의 점을 일정한 방식으로 조합하여 만든 문자이다. 시각 장애인이 손가락으로 점을 만지면서 스스로 글을 읽을 수 있다.

점자는 1800년대 초반에 처음 발명되었다. 점자를 처음 고안한 사람은 파리 맹학교 교사였던 '루이 브레일'였다. 그의 이름을 따서 점자를 '브레일'이라고 부른다.

세종대왕은 우리나라 말에 최적화된 문자 체계인 한글을 창제했다. 1920년대, 서울 맹학교 교사였던 박두성은 시각 장애인을 위한 한글 점자 체계를 창안해 냈다. 이 시스템은 시각 장애인들의 삶에 큰 변화를 가져왔다. 예들 들어, 시각 장애인들도 대한민국의 국민으로서 마침내 투표를 할 수 있게 된 것이다.
