세상 참 좁다

<말하기 연습>
In early November, I attended the wedding of a younger coworker that I am close with. The wedding was held outdoors, so the bride and groom looked especially radiant.
지난 11월 초에 가깝게 지내는 직장 후배 결혼식에 다녀왔다. 야외 결혼식이어서 신랑과 신부의 모습이 더 없이 밝고 화사해 보였다.

There was no officiant. Instead, the bride read aloud a letter she had prepared for the groom. She said she had chosen the date for the outdoor wedding after analyzing the weather patterns from the past three years. I was deeply moved by the thought and effort she put into it.
주례 없이 신부가 신랑에게 미리 준비한 글을 낭독했다. 신부는 이 야외 결혼식을 위해 지난 3년 간의 날씨 패턴을 분석해 이날을 택했다고 했다. 신부가 들인 그 정성과 노력에 감동이 물밀 듯이 밀려왔다.

After the ceremony, there was a photo session for family and relatives. That's when I noticed the bride's father looked oddly familiar. I went closer to get another look, and realized it was my old boss from 15 years ago. I was so amazed that I kept thinking to myself, "What a small world" on the way home.
식이 끝나고 가족, 친지 기념 사진 촬영이 있었다. 근데 그때 신부 아버님이 왠지 낯익은 얼굴이었다. 가까이 가서 한 번 더 확인했다. 알고 보니 15년 전 함께 일했던 나의 예전 직장 상사였다. 하도 신기해서 '세상에 이런 일도 있구나!' 라고 속으로 되뇌이며 집으로 돌아왔다

B: 물론이지. 근데 알고 보니 신부 아버님이 내가 아는 분이었어. 정말 깜짝 놀랐어.
