휴직 후 학부모로 살아가기

<말하기 연습>
I have been on a one-year leave of absence from work, beginning when my eldest daughter started grade school. During this time, I have set aside my career to focus on being a mom and giving my full attention to my child.
저는 큰딸이 초등학교에 입학을 한 시점부터 1년간 휴직을 했습니다. 이 기간 동안 잠시 나의 일을 접은 상태에서 아이에게 온전히 집중하며 엄마라는 역활에 빠져 지냈습니다.

I even took on the role of parent representative for my daughter's class, something I had never done before. This enabled me to create opportunities to connect and converse with other parents. I also actively engaged with the teachers. I was able to witness the school's field day, and found that it has changed a lot since back in our day.
심지어 한 번도 해 본 적 없는 아이 반 학부모 대표도 맡아, 다른 학부모들과 이야기 나눌 기회도 만들 수 있었습니다. 또한 선생님들과 적극적으로 소통하기도 했습니다. 학교 운동회도 구경 할 수 있었는데 우리 때와는 사뭇 달라졌음을 느꼈습니다.

Being new to these activities, I wasn't very adept. Even so, I believe that the time spent together with my child has been a big source of strength for her when she felt nervous in this new, unfamiliar environment. I will never forget the precious time I spent watching my child grow from close by.
처음 해 보는 활동들이라 그다지 능숙하지는 못했지만, 새롭고 낯선 환경에 긴장했을 아이에게 함께한 시간이 큰 힘이 되었을 거라고 믿습니다. 저는 아이의 성장을 가까이서 지켜본 소중한 시간을 잊지 못할 것 입니다.
