(The) times are changing, and there have been major shifts in the preferred specialization fields in the medical sector. In the 80s and 90s, pediatrics, obstetrics and bynecology were popular specialties. But starting in the 2000s, cosmetic surgery and dermatology have gained in popularity because of a growing interest in physical appearance.
시대의 변화에 따라, 의학계에서도 선호하는 전공 분야에 많은 변화가 있어 왔다. 80~90년대에는 소아과와 산부인과 등이 인기 있는 전공분야였다. 하지만 2000년대 들어서는 외모에 대한 관심도가 높아지면서 성형외과와 피부과 등이 인기를 얻었다.

Nowadays in the surgical field, which is prone to medical accidents, there has been a growing number of specialists who do not perform surgeries even after becoming experts in the field. General hostpitals without specialized thoracic surgeons have long since emerged across the nation.
특히 요즘은 의료 사고에 많이 노출될 수 밖에 없는 외과 분야는 전문의가 되어도 수술을 하지 않는 전문의가 늘어나고 있다고 한다. 전국에 흉부외과 전문의가 없는 종합 병원들이 생겨난 지도 이미 오래 되었다.

If this trend continues, there might come a time when we need to go overseas for surgical treatment. I hope that a practical and effective solution will emerge soon, allowing Korea to grow as a medical powerhouse.
이런 추세가 이어지면, 우리가 수술을 받기 위해 해외로 나가야 하는 때가 올 수도 있을 듯하다. 빠른 시일 안에 현실적이고 실효성 있는 대안이 나와서 한국이 의료 강국으로 발돋움 했으면 좋겠다.
