A: Koreans say, "I wish things were just as great as Hangawi." Hangawi is a pure Korean name for Chuseok.
B: I See, and what does the saying mean?
A: It's message to wish people well. During Chuseok, everything's perfect; the weather, the food... so people are generally in a great mood, too.
B: No wonder Chuseok is the biggest holiday in Korea.

A: 한국에는 이런 말이 있어. "모든 일이 한가위만 같아라." 한가위는 추석에 대한 순 한국말 표현이야.
B: 그렇구나, 근데 그 말이 무슨 뜻인데?
A: 사람들이 서로에게 복을 빌어주는 말이야. 추석 기간에는 모든 게 완벽하거든. 날씨도, 음식도 말이야... 그래서 사람들도 대개 아주 좋은 기분이거든.
B: 그래서 추석이 한국의 가장 큰 명절인 거구나.

A visit to the blue house. 청와대 방문 후기.

<말하기 연습>
The Korean government made the decision to make the Cheong Wa Dae, or Blue House, open to the public. There was fierce competition to get in at first, because people had only seen the Blue House on TV and wanted to see it in person.
대한민국 정부는 국민에게 청와대를 개방하기로 결정하였다. 사람들이 TV에서만 보던 청와대를 직접 가 보고 싶어해서 개방 초기에는 입장하려는 경쟁이 치열했다.

Luckily, I was able to visit last September. With the help of a friend, I scored a reservation without much trouble and even wore a handbok during the visit. Seeing the place where our country's president stayed was a new and memorable experience. The weather was also lovely, so I had a delightful day like I was on a picnic, even visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace.
나는 운이 좋게 지난 9월에 방문할 수 있었다. 지인의 도움으로 어렵지 않게 예약을 했고 방문하는 동안 한복까지 입었다. 우리나라 대통령이 머물던 곳을 직접 보고 나니 감회가 새로웠다. 날씨도 화창해서 경복궁까지 관람하며 마치 소풍을 간 듯 즐거운 하루를 보냈다.

I had visited Cheong Nam Dae, the president's vacation home, a few months back before the Blue House was opened. Cheong Nam Dae had not been in use for a longer time, so it felt more like a park than a presidential villa. Still, it had well-maintained walking trails and statues of past presidents, making it a fun place to visit.
나는 청와대 개방 몇 달 전에, 대통령 별장인 청남대를 찾아간 적이 있었다. 청남대는 사용하지 않은지 더 오래되어서 대통령 별장이라기 보다는 공원 같다는 느낌이 더 들었다. 하지만 산책로도 잘 관리되어 있고 역대 대통령들의 동상도 있어서 방문해 보기 좋은 곳이었다.
