The charm of pottery. 도예의 매력.

<말하기 연습>
My mother has been learning pottery as a hobby for a long time. I acted as her driver, driving her to and from the pottery studio. One day, I suddenly felt the urge to try it myself. And so, I started learning pottery.
저희 어머니는 취미로 오랫동안 도예를 배워 오셨습니다. 저는 어머니를 공방에 모셔다 드리는 운전사 노릇을 했습니다. 그러던 어느 날, 문득 나도 한번 해 볼까 하는 생각이 들어서 그렇게 도자기를 배우기 시작했습니다.

I became so captivated by its charm that I have been learning for over a year now. I learned hand techniques for the first few months, using my hands to shape and mold the clay. After that, I have been learning to use the potter's wheel. Placing a lump of clay on the spinning wheel and shaping it into the desired form was not as easy as I had thought. Pottery involves several steps, including shaping, glazing, and firing, to create the final result.
저는 그 매력에 빠져서 지금 1년이 넘도록 계속 배우고 있습니다. 처음 몇 달은 손으로 찰흙을 두드리고 밀고 눌러서 하는 손작업을 배우다가, 그 이후로는 흙 덩어리를 물레를 이용한 작업을 배우고 있습니다. 돌아가는 물레 위에 흙 덩어리를 올려놓고 원하는 모양으로 빚는 일은 생각만큼 쉽지 않습니다. 도자기는 모양을 만들고, 유약을 바르고, 굽는 등 몇 차례 절차를 거쳐야 최종 완성품이 나옵니다.

I'm still just a beginner, but I am determined to hone my skills. By next year, I hope to participate in an exhibition with the studio's other members.
지금은 아직 초보자이지만 저는 열심히 실력을 연마하기로 다짐했습니다. 내년에는 공방 회원들과 함께하는 전시회에 참여하고 싶습니다.
