In the past, golf was perceived as a sport exclusively for the wealthy, but now it seems to have become more popular among the general public. Golf is a polite sport where player must act independently with the ball in a stationary position on a wide course.
예전에는 골프가 부자들만의 전유물로 인식되었던 스포츠였는데 이제는 일반 대중들에게 인기가 많아진 것 같다. 골프는 넓은 코스에서 공이 놓여 있는 그 상태에서 경기자가 자주적으로 행동해야 하는 매너 운동이다.

I quit playing golf almost 20 years ago, but I recently picked it up again, wanting to enjoy my leisure time as I get older. Once you get into it, it's hard to get out of it, but I've endured all this time. These days, I aim more for direction rather than driving distance when I practice.
나는 거의 20여 년 전에 골프를 끊었는데, 나이가 들면서 여가 생활을 즐기기 위해 최근에 다시 시작했다. 한번 빠지면 헤어나지 못하는 것이 골프인데, 그동안 잘 참아왔다. 요즘은 비거리보다 방향성 위주로 연습하고 있다.

However, just like my English skills, my golf skills aren't improving all that much. Birdies are as rare as hen's teeth, but it gives me imcomparable pleasure. When the start of golf season approaches, my heart races with excitement at the thought of running around, searching for the ball.
그러나 내 골프 실력은 영어 실력만큼이나 늘지 않고 있다. 버디는 가문에 콩 나듯 드물게 치지만 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없는 괘감을 준다. 골프 시즌이 시작될 무렵이 되면, 공을 찾아 이리 뛰고 저리 뛰어다닐 생각에 가슴이 설렌다.
