To encourage the use of bicyles, public bike-sharing services are being operated by local governments in some regions of our country. Public bicycles are affordable, convenient, and provide residents with a way to get around. They have gained a lot of popularity, especially among younger generations.
자전거 사용을 장려하기 위해, 우리나라 일부 지역에서는 지자체별로 공공자전거 서비스가 운영되고 있다. 공공 자전거는 싸고 편리하고 시민들의 발이 되어 준다. 특히 젊은 층에게 높은 인기를 얻고 있다.

However, it has been reported that losses are piling up as public bike-sharing services continue to operate. In 2021, there was a nationwide loss of about 20 billion won. This is because of the cost of labor involved in redistributing bicyles, and the frequent damage that occurs due to multiple users.
하지만, 공공자전거 서비스는 계속 운영을 할수록 적자가 쌓이고 있다고 한다. 2021년에는 전국적으로 200억 정도의 적자가 발생했다. 이는 자전거를 재배치하는 데 인건비가 발생되고, 여러 사람이 사용하다 보니 훼손이 자주 되기 때문이다.

Even so, I don't think that this public service should be done away with just because of financial losses. The service offers advantages such as protecting the environment and creating safer cities. I hope that these advantages will be properly reflected so that operation of the service can be expanded even further.
하지만, 이 공공 서비스는 단순히 재정적인 손실 때문에 없어져서는 안된다고 생각한다. 이 서비스는 환경도 보호하고 더 안전한 도시를 만들어 준다는 장점도 있다. 이러한 장점들이 잘 반영이 되어 더욱 확대되어 운영되었으면 좋겠다.
