[Response]

The ground crew employees of airlines are in charge of various jobs. Mainly, their work can be categorized into work at the check-in counter, work at the boarding gate, work at the baggage claim area, and desk jobs.
I am in charge of the gate. Workers really various documents to the flight attendants and pilots. The prep work starts a few hours before the departure time to get the plane ready for take-off. The papers include departure and arrival forms, clearance forms, crew lists, and arrival cards.
When an inbound plane arrives, workers tidy up the plane, fill up the tank, and inspect the plane. When everything is good to go, new passengers can board. Just before departure time, we call for passengers who haven't arrived over the PA. Everything must go like clockwork for a plane to leave on time.

 
[해석]

항공사에는 여러 가지 업무를 담당하는 지상직 직원들이 있다. 이들의 업무는 주로 체크인 카운터 업무, 탑승 게이트 업무, 수하물 수취대 업무, 사무실 업무로 나눠져 있다.
나는 게이트 업무를 담당하고 있다. 직원들은 기내 승무원과 기장에게 여러 서류들을 전달한다. 비행기 이륙을 위한 준비 작업은 출발 몇 시간 전부터 시작된다. 서류에는 출도착 서류, 입출항 신고서, 크루 리스트, 입국 카드 등이 포함된다.
인바운드 비행기가 도착하면 직원들은 기내 청소, 급유, 비행기 점검 등을 하게 된다. 모든 준비가 끝나면, 새로운 승객들이 탑승할 수 있다. 비행기 출발 시간이 임박해지면, 탑승하지 않은 승객을 방송으로 찾는다. 항공기가 정시 출발을 하기 위해서는 모든 일이 신속하고 정확하게 진행되어야 한다.

[ VOCABULARY TIPS]

board Vs. boarding 탑승하다 Vs. 기숙, 숙박

본문에서는 board가 '탑승하다'라는 뜻의 동사로 사용되었는데, 동명사인 boarding으로 사용할 경우 '숙박'이나 '숙박료'를 뜻할 수도 있다. 특히, 기숙 학교를 boarding school이라고 부르고, room and board는 '식사를 포함한 숙박'을 뜻한다.
