One of the reasons Korea was able to prevail over the coronavirus pandemic was Korea's National Health Insurance. Everyone is required to join by law. The system provides more hospitals and hospital beds per person than in advanced European countries. People didn't hesitate to visit a hospital, and there was no shortage of beds for confirmed patients.
The monthly fee for the National Health Insurance depends on each person's income level and property value. There are dozens of tiers. The amount a person pays can differ by a factor of 300. The insurance premium is different, but everyone receives equal benefits. Of course, you do need to pay a fee at a hospital or clinic. But thanks to the system, it's not too much.

한국의 코로나바이러스 사태를 잘 이겨 낸 이유 중 하나는 국민건강보험 제도 때문이었다. 법적으로 누구나 가입하게 되어 있다. 이 제도로 인해서, 유럽 선진국들보다 국민 일인당 더 많은 병원과 병상이 확보되어 있다. 그래서 사람들이 서슴지 않고 병원을 찾아갔고, 확진 환자들을 위한 병상도 부족하지 않았다.
매달 내는 국민건강보험료는 한 사람의 소득과 자산 가치에 따라 다르게 책정된다. 수십 개의 등급 구간이 있고, 한 사람이 내는 보험료는 300배 이상 차이가 나기도 한다. 보험료는 다르지만, 누구나 동일한 혜택을 받는다. 물론, 병원에 가면 본인이 부담해야 하는 금액이 있기는 하다. 그러나 이 제도 덕분에, 부담이 가는 금액은 아니다.
