<말하기 연습>
Experts often say we shouldn't interrupt kids when they're deeply absorbed in something. It's because that process expands their interests, and they can naturally grow and learn.
전문가들은 흔히 아이들이 무언가에 깊이 몰입하는 것을 방해하지 말라고들 한다. 몰입하는 과정에서 관심사가 확장되고 자연스레 성장과 학습이 일어나기 때문이다.

But when my child became immersed in games, I honestly didn't feel great about it. When he was into insects or Lego, it felt like those interests matched his personality. But games are almost devilishly addictive, and it felt like that was why he was pulled in. I felt that way even though I researched the positive effects games in grad school, and my husband is a game developer.
나는 아아의 올입의 대상이 게임이 되자 솔직히 마음이 좋지 않았다. 아이가 곤충이나 레고에 빠져 있을 때는 그런 관심이 아이의 적성에 맞는 것 같았다. 하지만 게임은 악마 같은 중독성이 있어서 아이가 빠져든 것 같이 느껴졌다. 나는 대학원에서 게임의 긍정적 영향력을 연구했고, 남편이 게임 개발자인데도 그렇게 느꼈다.

I don't want to ban games entirely, but I also don't want to encourage them too much. Thankfully, he's been really cooperative about following time limits for gaming.
게임을 아예 금지하고 싶지는 않지만 이것을 확장해 주고 싶지도 않다. 다행히 아이는 시간 제한을 두고 게임을 하는 것에 적극적으로 협조해 주고 있다.
