차량용 블랙박스는 이제는 거의 필수품이 되었지만 막상 black box라는 표현 자체를 영어권에서는 우리와 다소 다르게 사용한다. 보통은 차량의 속도나 위치, 사고 관련 정보를 눈에 띄지 않게 기록하는 장치를 black box라고 지칭하며, 우리가 보통 흔히 생각하는 주행 영상 녹화 장치는 dashboard camera를 줄인 dash cam이라는 표현으로 부르는 경우가 대부분이다.
