10 Years of Donatons. 10년의 기부.

<말하기 연습>
A year after our marriage, my husband's health took a downturn, and he had to leave his job. Our financial situation became increasingly difficult. My husband had no choice but to start work as a substitute driver. There were days when he finished work after service was suspended, and he had to walk three hours to get home. Sitting next to our sleeping child as we talked on the phone while he walked through the dark streets, and we broke into tears.
결혼 1년 뒤 남편은 몸이 안 좋아져서 퇴사를 해야 했다. 가정 형편은 점점 어려워졌고, 어쩔 수 없이 남편은 대리운전 일을 시작했다. 어느날은 버스가 끊기고 나서 일이 끝나 3시간 거리를 걸어와야 하기도 했다. 잠든 아이 옆에 앉아 깜깜한 밤거리를 걷는 남편과 통화를 하며 우린 눈물을 흘렸다.

Then, when things got a little better, we immediately put into action our plan to donate to charity. Our household finances were tough, but we have never given any thought to stopping our donations.
그러다 형편이 조금 좋아지면서 자선 단체에 기부하기로 했던 우리의 계획을 당장 실행에 옮겼다. 가정 형편이 넉넉한 것은 아니었지만, 단 한 번도 기부를 중단해야겠다는 생각은 해 본 적이 없다.

A few days ago, we received a letter from a charitable organization in our mailbox. It expressed gratitude for our donations over the past ten years, and contained drawings made by the children who received our help. My heart welled up. We will continue to make our donations in the years to come.
며칠 전 우편함에 자선 단체에서 온 편지가 있었다. 10년간 꾸준히 기부해 줘서 감사하다는 내용과 우리의 도움을 받은 아이들이 직접 그린 그림이 있었다. 코끝이 찡해져 왔다. 우리는 앞으로도 계속 기부를 이어 나갈 것이다.
