The Worst English Teacher.
최악의 영어 선생님.

I remember my first English calss when I was a high school junior. The teacher came in and got straight to work. I was trying to focus on the lesson, but my friend sitting in the next seat over started to talk to me. Seeing me talk with my friend, the teacher asked me the meaning of a word.
고등학교 2학년 때 첫 영어 수업이 기억이 납니다. 선생님이 들어오셔서 바로 수업을 시작하셨어요. 저는 열심히 수업에 집중하려고 했는데, 옆자리에 앉은 친구가 저에게 말을 걸었습니다. 제가 친구와 얘기하는 것을 보신 선생님께서는 어떤 단어의 뜻을 저에게 물어보셨습니다.

I was caught off guard, and I couldn't answer. The teacher made me stand up for an hour. I felt wronged, and I was sad. I didn't watn to settle into that image, so I really started to double down on my English studied starting that day.
당황한 저는 대답을 하지 못했고, 선생님은 저에게 한 시간 동안 서 있으라고 하셨습니다. 저는 너무 억울하고 슬펐습니다. 이런 이미지로 굳어지는 게 싫어서 그날부터 영어 공부를 엄청 열심히 하기 시작했습니다.

I got a perfect score on my first English midterm exam. I ended up really getting into English. I majored in English in college, and I am now an English teacher myself. Looking back, I suppose that English teacher wasn't all bad after all.
그리고 첫 중간고사에서 영어 성적이 100점이 나왔습니다. 결국 저는 영어를 무척 좋아하게 되었고, 대학에서 영어를 전공해서 지금은 영어 선생님이 되었습니다. 돌이켜 보면, 그 선생님이 최악의 영어 선생님이었던 것만은 아니었네요.

B: Why?
A: He was wo scare, and his physical punishment sometimes crossed the line.
B: I suppose you could have felt taht way at the time. These days, corporal punishment has been banned from schools.

A: 학교 다닐 때 너무 싫었던 선생님이 있었니?
B: 특별히 싫어했던 선생님은 없었던 것 같아. 너는?
A: 나는 중학교 때 체육 선생님이 너무 싫었어.
B: 왜?
A: 너무 무서웠고, 가끔 체벌도 좀 심하게 하셨어.
B: 당시에는 그렇게 느꼈을 수도 있겠다. 요즘은 학내 체벌은 일체 금지되어 있잖아.
