I got my first taste of cilantro when I was traveling in Thailand 15 years ago. At first, it seemed to have an aggressive flavor. It tasted just like a kitchen detergent or soap. I looked up the phrase "leave out cilantro" in a dictionary and showed it whenever I ordered food.
내가 고수를 처음 접한 것은 15년 전 태국 여행 때였다. 처음에는 주방 세제나 비누 맛 같은 것이 무척 자극적으로 느껴졌다. 그래서 사전에서 "고수 빼 주세요"라는 문장을 찾아서 음식을 시킬 때마다 보여 주기도 했다.

But many years have passed, and now I can't get enough of cilantro. When COVID-19 made it difficult to travel, I was upset that I couldn't eat my fill of Southeast Asian dishes, heavily seasoned with cilantro.
그러나 세월이 지난 지금은 없엇 못 먹을 정도로 고수를 좋아하게 되었다. 코로나 19로 해외 여행이 어려웠을 당시에는, 고수가 듬뿍 들어간 동남아 현지 음식을 마음껏 먹을 수 없어서 안타깝기도 했다.

Nowadays, cilantro has become easier to come by here in Korea. Food is a matter of personal preference, so I wouldn't force it upon anyone. But just like my own strong distaste for cilantro has changed, I hope others will also be able to experience the flavors.
요즘에는 한국에서도 고수를 비교적 쉽게 구할 수 있게 되었다. 음식은 개인 취향에 달려 있기 때문에 누구에게도 강요할 수는 없다. 하지만 고수를 몹시 싫어하던 나도 바뀐 것처럼 고수 맛의 향연을 다른 분들도 느껴 볼 수 있으면 좋겠다.
