Lessons From Board Games.
보드게임으로 얻는 교훈.

I started playing board games as a way to have fun with my 4-year-old daughter. I sensed that she was highly competitive, so I played with her every chance I got to teach her how to manage her feelings.
나는 4살 된 딸아이와 즐겁게 놀이를 할 방법으로 보드게임을 하기 시작하였다. 아이가 승부욕이 강한 것이 보여서 감정을 조절하는 법을 가르치기 위해 기회가 되는 대로 아이와 게임을 했다.

There was so much to teach her as we played board games. First, you must play the game fair and square. Second, you must learn to steady yourself when victory is within reach, but you end up back at square one. Third, you shouldn't hold it against your opponent when you are unexpectedly attacked.
보드게임을 하다 보니 아이에게 가르쳐야 할 것들이 너무 많았다. 첫째, 정정당당하게 게임에 임해야 한다. 둘째, 승리를 눈앞에 두고도 결국 원점으로 되돌아가게 됐을 때 마음을 추스를 줄 알아야 한다. 셋째, 예상하지 못한 공격을 받게 되었을 때 상대를 원망하지 않아야 한다.

These lessons were but a few of many. They are hard lessons to teach a child. But for 8 years now, we've played board games to wind down the day. When she grows up, I plan to ask her whether mom and dad's secret intentions had any effect.
그 밖에도 가르칠 것이 수없이 많았다. 아이에게 가르치기에는 참 어려운 교훈들이기는 하다. 그러나 벌써 8년째 우리는 보드게임을 하며 하루를 마무리하고 있다. 성인이 되면 엄마와 아빠의 숨은 의도가 효과가 있었는지 물어볼 생각이다.

A: 아이들이 간접적으로 사회생활이 어떤 건지 경험하는 좋은 방법이기도 해요.
B: 맞아요. 그래서 항상 시간을 내서라도 하려고 해요.
