Balance Bikes.
밸랜스 바이크.
I know my way around a bicyle now, but it took quite a while before I got the hang of it. Wanting my son to have a better time as he learned to ride a bike, I gave him a red balance bike as a gift when he was 3 years old.
나는 지금은 자전거를 곧잘 타지만, 자전거와 친해지는 데 꽤 많은 시간이 걸렸다. 그래서 우리 아들은 더 재미있게 자전거 타는 법을 배우게 하고 싶어서, 3살 무렵의 아이에게 빨간 밸런스 바이크를 선물해 주었다.
A balance bike is a two-wheeled bicyle that isn't equipped with pedals. Since there are no pedals, the rider must push off the ground to move forward. This means kids can avoid tipping over as they gain a sense of balance.
밸런스 바이크란 페달이 없는 두발 자전거이다. 페달이 없기 때문에 두 발로 땅을 박차고 나아가야 해서, 아이들이 넘어지지 않고도 균형 감각을 익힐 수 있다.
My son learned how to balance himself on a balance bike, and was later able to zip around on a two-wheeled bike relatively easily. His excited face when he first rode a two-wheeler sucessfully is still fresh in my memory. As a dad, that moment when my son's face lit up with a sense of accomplishment has become an indelible memory.
우리 아들은 밸런스 바이크로 균형 잡는 법을 익혔고, 그 후 비교적 쉽게 두발 자전거로 쌩쌩 달릴 수 있었다. 처음 두발 자전거 타는 것에 성공했을 당시 아들의 신나는 얼굴이 아직도 눈에 선하다. 아이의 표정이 성취감으로 밝아지던 그 순간은 아빠인 나에게 잊지 못할 추억이 되었다.
