Fasting at a Hospital.
병원에서의 금식.
When people go under the knife or need general anesthesia for a medical procedure or test, they are told to fast beforehand. The purpose of this is to empty the stomach.
수술을 받거나 의료 시술 및 검사를 받기 위해 수면 마취가 필요할 때, 그 전에 금식을 하라고 합니다. 이는 위를 비우는 것이 그 목적입니다.
The contrast medium used when a patient gets a CT scan or drugs used to make them fall asleep can cause nausea. If food is left in the stomach, there is a higer risk that the gag reflex will cause the food to flow back up the esophagus and into the lungs. The cough reflex helps prevent foreign substances from entering the airway. But this reflex is suppressed when a patient is rendered unconscious by general anesthsia.
환자가 CT촬영을 할 때 사용하는 조영제나 수면용으로 사용하는 약제는 구역질을 유발하기도 합니다. 위 안에 음식물이 남아 있으면 구역질로 인해 음식물이 식도로 역류하여 폐로 들어갈 위험이 높아집니다. 또한 기침 반사가 이물질이 기도로 들어가는 것을 막아 주는데, 환자가 수면 마취로 의식이 저하된 상태에서는 이러한 반사가 억제됩니다.
The advised fasting period is at least 8 hours for solid foods. This takes into account the time it takes for the stomach to digest food and pass it along to the intestines. Of course, you should void treating it like your last and making a pig of yourself.
금식 시간은 고형식 기준으로 최소 8시간을 권고하고 있습니다. 이는 위에서 음식물이 소화되어 장으로 내려가는 데 걸리는 시간을 고려한 것입니다. 물론, 마지막 만찬이라며 과한 식사를 하는 것은 피하는 것이 좋습니다.
