Missing an old Friend.
그리운 옛 친구.
Next year, I will enter my 50s. At my age, you start digging up memories from the past. For me, it's the memory of an old friend that I would like to get back in touch with.
나는 내년이면 50대에 들어간다. 내 나이 즈음되면, 과거의 추억들을 소환하게 된다. 나에게는 다시 연락해 보고 싶은 옛 친구에 대한 추억이다.
We met in 5th grade and became best friends. We lived in the same apartment complex and had the same last name, so we became inseparable. We freely got things off our chests that we couldn't discuss with our parents and cheered each other up. Then, we were assigned to different middle schools. I remember how we cried our eyes out.
우리는 초등학교 5학년 때 만나서 둘도 없는 친구가 되었다. 같은 아파트 단지에 살았고 성씨도 같아서 더욱 가까워졌다. 부모님께조차 말 못할 고민들을 거리낌없이 털어놓고 서로 위로해 주었다. 그러고 나서 우리는 다른 중학교로 배정을 받았고, 서로 대성통곡을 했던 기억이 있다.
We gradually drifted apart after that, and my friend later moved to a different town. We stayed in touch through letters, but we eventually lost contact and I have been unable to reach her ever since. I'm sure she's doing well for herself somewhere, but If she happens to be studying English with "입트영," I hope these words will reach her so we can reconnect.
이후 점점 사이가 멀어졌고 친구는 다른 지역으로 이사를 갔다. 우리는 편지를 통해 계속 연락을 했지만, 결국 연락이 끊어졌고 그 이후로 지금까지 그 친구를 찾지 못하고 있다. 어딘가에서 잘 살고 있겠지만, 혹시 지금 "입트영"으로 영어 공부를 하고 있다면 이 글이 그 친구에게 전달되어 우리가 다시 만나게 되면 좋겠다.
