Children's Fashion
I have let go of a lot of things while bringing up my children. This includes his sense of fashion. When I saw kids in childish, over-the-top clothes before I got married, I used to wonder why their parents would let them dress like that. But now, I have joined their ranks.
My 4-year-old son leaves the house today in a ballet tutu. It's not the first time. His sister has grown out of her tutus and princessy skirts, but they are now my son's prized possessions. It makes him so happy to see the skirts puff up as he spins around, that I can't bring myself to tell him that boys don't wear skirts.
Pink ballet skirts are just too harmless for me to ban, just because of a parent's personal tastes or society's gender stereotypes. It's hard for children to put their thoughts into words. Maybe it's better to allow them the opportunity and freedom to express themselves through their fashion.
유년기 패션
아이를 키우면서 저는 많은 것을 포기했습니다. 그중 하나는 아아의 패션 감각입니다. 결혼하기 전에 저는 유치찬란한 옷을 입은 아이들을 보면서, 왜 부모가 저렇게 옷을 입히는지 궁금해하곤 했습니다. 하지만 제가 그런 부모가 되었습니다.
4살짜리 제 아들은 오늘도 발레복을 입고 집을 나섭니다. 이번이 처음이 아닙니다. 누나에게 작아져 버린 발레복과 공주 치마는 이제 아들의 보물입니다. 빙글빙글 돌면서 치마가 부푸는 모습에 무척 기뻐하는 아이를 보면, 차마 남자는 치마를 입지 않는다는 말을 꺼낼 수가 없습니다.
단지 부모의 취향이나 성에 대한 사회의 고정 관념 때문에 제가 금지시키기에는 분홍색 발레 치마는 너무나도 무해합니다. 아이들은 생각을 말로 표현하기가 어렵습니다. 패션으로 자신을 표현할 수 있는 기회와 자유를 허락해 주는 것이 오히려 더 바람직할지도 모릅니다.
