My life's motto.
I watched the movie "Dead poets' Society" as a teenager. Ever since then, "Carpe diem (Seize the day)" has been my life's motto. At first, I just thought it sounded cool. But as I got older, I came to understand the true meaning of the line.
Watching the movie "The Butterfly Effect" in my 20s further crystallized my motto. Characters in this type of time travel movie usually go back in time to fix things that trouble them in the present. But changes in the past always lead to new problems in the new reality. Despite repeated attempts, there is never a perfect solution.
That's why I try to treasure the present and give my best to enjoy each day. I believe this will make me happy, even if my past, present and future aren't perfect.
내 삶의 모토.
나는 10대 때 "죽은 시인의 사회"라는 영화를 보았다. 그 이후로 "카르페디엠(현재를 즐겨라)"는 내 삶의 모토가 되었다. 처음에는 그저 그 말이 멋있게 느껴졌다. 그러나 나이가 들수록 그 말의 진정한 의미를 깨닫게 되었다.
20대 때 "나비 효과"라는 영화를 보고 나의 모토는 더욱 확고해 졌다. 이런 시간 여행을 다룬 영화의 주인공들은 대부분 현재의 불만족스러운 점을 바로잡기 위해 과거로 간다. 하지만 바뀐 과거는 늘 새로운 현실 세계에서 또 다른 문제를 낳게 된다. 여러 번 시도해도 결코 완벽한 해결책은 없다.
그래서 나는 현재를 소중히 여기고 하루하루 최선을 다해 즐기려고 노력한다. 그러면 나의 과거, 현재, 미래가 완벽하진 않더라도 행복해질 것이라고 믿는다.
