As the number of households that have cats skyrockets, the number of abandoned cats is also steadily rising. Strat cats are a common sight in any Korean city.
The unchecked growth of their population is causing problems for local residents. Stray roam the streets looking for food. They dig through garbage bags, and they make a racket when they are in heat.
To address the problem, local governments are trapping, neutering, and returning (TNR) cats. This reduces their population. Neutered cats are marked with a cut on their left ear. Through such measures, the cats can also lead healthy lives.


[해석]

고양이를 키우는 가구가 급격히 늘면서 유기되는 고양이의 수도 꾸준히 늘고 있다. 그래서 한국의 어느 도시에서든 길고양이를 흔하게 볼 수 있다.
무분별한 개체수의 증가로 지역 주민 피해가 발생하고 있기도 하다. 길고양이는 먹이를 찾기 위해 도로를 종횡무진한다. 쓰레기봉투를 파헤치고, 발정기가 되면 큰 소리를 내며 울기도 한다.
이러한 문제들에 대처하고자 각 지자체에서는 고양이 중성화 수술(TNR)을 시행하여 개체수를 줄이고 있다. 중성화된 고양이는 왼쪽 귀를 조금 잘라서 표시한다. 이러한 조치로 고양이도 건강한 삶을 누릴 수 있다.
