The functions of washing machines are very specified these days. Using these various functions makes it a breeze to do the laundry. Even so, doing the laundry is a household chore that requires a lot of care. Before running the washing machine, I separate the whites and colors. If they are washed together, all the white clothes can be dyed or damaged. Clothes with stubborn stains should be hand-washed before they are put in the washer. After the laundry is placed in the washing machine, I add detergent and fabric softener. I select a wash cycle and run the machine. It's possible to set the water temperature and spin-dry cycle. When the laundry is finished, I hang it to dry on the drying rack.

요즘은 세탁기들의 기능이 아주 세분화되어 있다. 이런 여러 가지 기능을 이용하면 빨래가 쉽다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 빨래는 손이 많이 가는 집안일 중 하나이다. 세탁기를 돌리기 전에 일단 흰옷과 색깔 옷을 분리한다. 함께 빨 경우, 흰옷이 전부 물이 들거나 손상될 수 있기 때문이다. 찌든 때가 있는 옷은 손으로 먼저 빨아서 세탁기에 넣는 것이 좋다. 세탁기에 빨랫감을 넣고 나서, 세제와 섬유 유연제를 넣는다. 세탁기의 세탁 사이클을 잘 선정해서 빨래를 돌린다. 이때, 물의 온도와 탈수 횟수까지 지정할 수 있다. 빨래가 다 되면, 빨래 건조대에 빨래를 널어서 말린다.

세탁기 

직역을 하면 뜻이 '세척기'에 가깝지만, 목적어 없이 washing machine이라고 하면 보통 빨래 세탁기를 뜻한다. 식기 세척기는 구체적으로 dish-washing machine이라고 부르니 혼동하지 않도록 조심해야 한다.

 

예) I put the dirty clothes in the washing machine. (나는 더러워진 옷을 세탁기에 넣었다.)
There is no room for a dish-washing machine in our kitchen. (우리 주방에는 식기 세척기를 둘 공간이 없다.)
