[Model Response]

The bills of most national currencies have pictures of the country's historical figures. Korea's bills are no exception. Korea's bills are no exception. The 1,000 won bill features Yi Hwang. He was a scholar in the Joseon period who built a school to educate students. The 5,000 won bill features Yi I. He was the top student of Yi Hwang. The two were famous philosophers of the time. Yi I is also the son of Sin Saimdang, who is on the 50,000 won bill. The 10,000 won bill features King Sejong the Great, who invented Hangul, the Korean alphabet. He was the most famous leader in all of Korean history. Korean people feel very proud of him. Finally, Sin Saimdang is on the 50,000 won bill. She is the first woman on a Korean bill. She was a calligrapher, poet, writer and artist, all in one. There is talk of making a 100,000 won bill, but it is still in the works.

대부분의 나라 화폐에는 그 나라의 위인들이 그러져 있다. 한국의 지폐도 마찬가지다. 천 원권 지폐에는 퇴계 이황 선생이 있다. 그는 조선 시대 학자로 서원을 지어 후학을 양성하였다. 오천 원권 지폐에는 율곡 이이 선생이 그려져 있다. 그는 이황 선생의 수제자이며 이황 선생과 함께 당대 유명한 유학자이다. 오만 원권에 그려진 신사임당의 아들이기도 하다. 만 원권 지폐에는 한굴을 창제한 세종대왕이 실려 있다. 그는 한국 역사상 가장 유명한 지도자이고, 한국인들이 무척 자랑스럽게 생각하는 인물이다. 마지막으로 오만 원권에는 신사임당이 그려져 있다. 한국 화폐에 실린 최초의 여성이다. 서예가, 시인, 작가였으며 동시에 화가였다. 십만 원권 지폐 제작에 대한 거론도 있기는 하지만, 만들어질지는 아직 미정이다.

지폐 

문화권이나 지방에 따라 지폐를 bank note, cash, paper money 등 다양한 표현으로 부를 수 있다. 보통은 어느 표현을 사용하든 의사 전달에는 지장이 없으니 크게 걱정하지 않고 자유롭게 말해도 된다.

 

예) Bills in a card are my favorite gift. (카드에 담긴 지폐는 내가 가장 좋아하는 선물이다.)
I couldn't use the ATM, because there were no more bank notes in it. (지폐가 다 소진되어 현금입출금기를 사용할 수 없었다.)
