How My Mom Overcame Her Impairment.
엄마의 장애 극복기.
My mother has an acquired visual impairment. She went under the knife a week before my dwedding because of a sudden loss of sight. After 17 surgeries, she was finally able to faintly make out shapes and colors.
우리 엄마는 후천적 시각 장애인입니다. 제 결혼식 일주일 전 갑작스러운 시력 상실로 인해 수술을 받으셨습니다. 이후 17번의 수술 끝에 희미하게 모양과 색을 구분할 수 있게 되셨습니다.
I couldn't forgive myself for busying myself with my wedding preparations, ignoring my sick mother. It must have been so hard for her in pitch darkness. But she always kept her sunny dispositon, as if she knew how I was kicking myself.
건강에 이상이 생긴 엄마를 돌보지 않고, 결혼 준비에만 바빴던 제 자신을 저는 용서할 수 없었습니다. 칠흙 같은 어둠 속에서 힘드셨을 텐데, 자책하는 제 마음을 알고 있는 것처럼 엄마는 항상 밝은 모습을 보여 주셨습니다.
Thankfully, she has been trying to live her best life ever since she developed her handicap. Before then, she was completely devoted to her family. Her eyesight isn't what it was, but I am so proud of her for grabbing life by the horns. I love you, mom!
다행히, 장애가 생기고 나서 엄마는 자신의 행복을 추구하며 살려고 노력하고 계십니다. 그 전에는 오로지 가족만을 위해서 헌신하며 사셨습니다. 비록 시력은 예전 같지 않지만, 의욕적으로 자신의 삶을 개척하고 계시는 엄마가 너무나도 자랑스럽습니다. 사랑해요, 엄마!
