Long-distance Couples.
My husband was assigned to a regional branch of his company once. It meant our family had to live apart. At first, it broke my heart that we could only meet on weekends. Our kids were 4 and 10 years old at the time, so they looked up to their dad a lot.
My husband took the train home every Friday night, and took it again to work early in the morning on Mondays. During the week, he stayed at a residence near his office. He was so nervous about sleeping in every Monday that he developed a sleep disorder. It really made me feel bad for him.
But there was a silver lining. On holidays or during vacation, we took the train to my husband's office residence. Then, we visited nearby tourist attractions like ancient palaces and museums. The kids were happy to get out of the house and stay at their dad's place.
주말 부부.
남편이 한동안 회사의 지방 지사로 발령이 나서, 가족들이 떨어져 살아야 했던 적이 있다. 처음에는 주말에만 만날 수 있는 게 너무나 속상했다. 그 당시 아이들이 4살, 10살이어서 한창 아빠를 따를 때이기도 했다.
남편은 금요일 저녁마다 기차를 타고 집에 왔고, 월요일 새벽에 다시 기차를 타고 출근했다. 주중에는 회사 근처에 있는 숙소에서 묵었다. 남편은 월요일 아침마다 늦잠을 잘까봐 긴장을 해서 수면 장애까지 생겼다. 이 때문에 남편이 무척 안쓰러웠다.
하지만 좋은 점도 있었다. 휴일이나 방학 때 우리는 기차를 타고 남편의 숙소에 갔다. 그리고는 고궁이나 박물관 같은 근처의 관강 명소들을 구경했다. 아이들은 집을 떠나 아빠의 숙소에서 지내는 것을 매우 즐거워했다.
