Talk about the problem of disappearing honeybees.
I have memories of being stung by bees many times when I was young, so I hightail it whenever I see a bee. But these days, the disappearance of honeybees is becoming a major global issue. Reasons include global warming, pesticides, ticks, diseases, diminishing forests, and fewer beekeeping farms.
The problem of disappearing bees goes far beyond our not being able to eat honey. Many agricultural crops around the world depend heavily on bees for pollination.
I wanted to do something to help. Last year, I planted sunflowers since bees are partial to them. A few bees really did come. The bees covered in yellow pollen were quite adorable. I am planing on planting sunflowers again this year.
나는 어렸을 때 꿀벌에게 여러번 쏘인 기억이 있어서 꿀벌을 보면 도망부터 간다. 그런데 요즘은 꿀벌 감소가 전 세계적으로 중대한 문제가 되고 있다고 한다. 그 원인으로는 지구 온난화, 농약, 진드기, 질병, 산림 감소, 양봉 농가 감소 등이 있다.
꿀벌이 감소하는 문제는 우리가 꿀을 더 이상 먹을 수 없게 된다는 것에서 끝나지 않는다. 전 세계에서 많은 농작물이 주로 꿀벌에 의존해서 수분을 하기 때문이다.
나도 뭔가 도움이 되고 싶어서, 작년에 꿀벌이 좋아하는 해바라기를 심어 봤다. 정말로 꿀벌 몇 마리가 다가왔다. 노란 꽃가루로 덮인 꿀벌이 꽤 귀여웠다. 나는 올해도 해바라기를 또다시 심을 계획이다.
