Organizing and getting rid of used books.
While preparing for a move, I realized that there were too many books sitting unread in the house. Except for a few books I wanted to read again or hold on to, they were all unnecessary. So, I decided to take it as an opportunity to organize and get rid of my books, freeing up room on my bookshelves.
Af first, I looked into donating the books to the local library. But donations were restricted to books published within the last five years. Next, I considered selling the books to a used bookstore. But most of the books couldn't be sold, for one reason or another.
That's when I found out that the National Library of Korea accepts book donations. I was able to get rid of a lot of books that way. They might have outlived their usefulness for me, but I hope they will become good reads again for other people.
이사를 준비하는 중, 집에서 읽지 않은 채 방치된 책들이 너무 많다는 것을 알게 되었다. 다시 읽어 보고 싶거나 소장하고 싶은 책 몇 권을 제외하고는 모두 불필요한 짐이었다. 그래서 나는 이번 기회에 내 책들을 정리하고 처분해서 책장을 비우기로 마음 먹었다.
처음에는 동네 도서관에 책을 기부하는 것을 알아보았다. 그런데 기부는 발행된 지 5년 이내의 책들만 가능하다는 제한이 있었다. 다음으로 중고 서점에 책을 파는 것을 생각해 보았다. 하지만 대부분의 책들이 이런저런 사유로 판매가 불가능했다.
그러던 중 국립 중앙 도서관에서 책을 기증받는다는 것을 알게 되었다. 그렇게 나는 많은 책들을 처분할 수 있었다. 나에게는 쓸모가 없어진 책이지만, 다른 사람들에게는 다시 한번 의미 있는 책이 되기를 바란다.
