Rasing one's self-esteem.
People jump through hoops just to gain recognition from others, because they don't know how precious they are. Many live their lives focused only on success. But living to be recognized is meaningless. Drinking seawater doesn't slake our thirst, but only makes it worse. In the same way, we feel emotionally empty the more we gain recognition.
Respecting who I am and how I truly feel, no matter what anyone thinks, is the way to a full heart. To respect oneself is to love so strongly that every aspect becomes acceptable.
This sort of self-love, with no strings attached, is how I can truly be myself. It's also good to dedicate oneself to what is truly precious. Through that process, a person's true self is revealed.
사람들은 자신이 얼마나 소중한지 모르기 때문에 타인에게 인정을 받으려고 애쓴다. 그래서 많은 이들이 성공에만 집착한 삶을 산다. 그러나 인정받기 위해 사는 삶은 허무하다. 바닷물은 마실수록 갈증이 해소되는 것이 아니라 오히려 갈증만 더해진다. 마찬가지로 인정도 받을수록 마음이 허해진다.
남들이 뭐라고 하든 현재 내 모습과 진실한 마음을 존중하는 것이 마음이 충만해지는 방법이다. 자신을 존중하는 것은 자신의 모든 면을 수용할 정도로 강하게 사랑하는 것이다.
이런 조건 없는 자기 사랑을 토대로 나는 비로소 '나'다워진다. 또한 참으로 소중하게 여기는 것에 헌신하는 것도 좋다. 그 과정에서 진정한 자기 모습이 드러난다.
