Car owners are obliged to inspect their cars. For ordinary passenger cars, you have to receive a mandatory inspection 4 years after your first register the vehicle. A commercial vehicle must undergo an inspection two years after first registering it. After that, it has to be inspected on a yearly basis.
There are many inspection items. Inspections related to exhaust gases are at the top of the list. When a car is up for inspection, you get a notice in the mail. It contains detailed information about the inspection and when to get it. You can go to any one of 59 designated inspection stations across the country. If you don't go within the designated timeframe, you have to pay a fine.

차량 소유자들은 의무적으로 자동차 검사를 받아야 한다. 일반 승용차의 경우 처음 차량을 등록하고 4년이 되는 해에 의무적인 검사를 받아야 한다. 영업용 승용차는 처음 등록하고 2년 후에 검사를 받아야 하고, 그 후에는 1년에 한 번씩 검사를 받는다.
