<말하기 연습>
I am an interpreter working at a Combined Cycle Power Plant. It was difficult just trying to keep up with the conversations when I first started, because there was so much technical jargon.
저는 복합 화력 발전소(Combined Cycle Power Plant)에서 일하고 있는 통역사입니다. 처음 일을 시작했을 때는 대부분의 대화가 전문 용어들 투성이었기에 이해조차 벅찼습니다.

But I couldn't just give up. Every day, I went around the site, learning each term one by one. As I steadily worked through things, one day the company made an unexpected proposal. They asked me to translate the main equipment manual explaining the operational procedures of the power plant's core machinery. It was several hundred pages long, an enormous volume. I felt a lot of pressure at first. After 1 year and & months, I finally completed the task.
하지만 그냥 포기할 수는 없었습니다. 매일 현장을 돌며, 용어들을 하나씩 익혀 나갔습니다. 하나하나 성실히 해 나가다 보니, 어느 날 회사에서 뜻밖의 제안을 했습니다. 바로 발전소 핵심 장비의 작동 절차를 안내하는 주기기 메뉴얼 번역이었습니다. 몇 백 페이지의 엄청난 분량이었습니다. 처음에는 부담감이 컸지만, 무려 1년 8개월이라는 시간이 지나 드디어 이 작업을 마무리하게 되었습니 다.

This experience not only improved my translation skills but also helped me develop problem-solving skills and perseverance. I am growing step by step to become an interpreter who knows the site better than anyone.
단순한 번역 능력을 넘어, 저에게 문제 해결 능력과 끈기를 키워 준 소중한 경험이었습니다. 저는 누구보다 현장을 잘 아는 통역사로 한 걸음씩 성장해 가고 있습니다.

1. 전문 용어를 전부 알 필요는 없다.
You don't have to know all the technical jargon.
