The main forms of housing in Korea can be categorized as apratments, apartments in smaller complexes called "villas," and single-family houses.
한국의 주거 형태는 크게 아파트, 빌라(아파트보다 작은 주택 단지), 단독 주택으로 나눠집니다.
Apartments and villas are the norm in most downtown areas of major cities. This is likely the only way to satisfy demand with so many people living in a limited amount of space. In contrast, single-family houses become more common in suburban neighborthoods and more remote locations.
대도시의 도심 지역에는 대부분 아파트나 빌라가 많은 편입니다. 한정된 공간에 여러 사람이 몰려 살고 있기 때문에 그 수요를 충족시키는 유일한 방법으로 이런 현상이 있는 것 같습니다. 반면에 교외와 더 외진 곳에는 단독 주택이 많은 편입니다.
There is a lot to take care of when you live in a separate house, so many people tend to lean toward apartments. But house have their selling points, too. You can conveniently fire up a barbecue on an outdoor terrace, or keep a garden.
주택에 살면 아무래도 이것저것 관리해야 하는 부분들이 많다 보니, 많은 사람들이 아파트를 선호하는 경향이 있습니다. 하지만 주택은 야외 테라스에서 편하게 바비큐를 즐기고, 정원을 가꿀 수 있는 등 나름의 장점도 있습니다.
Meanwhile, many apartment units are crammed together in apartment complexes. This leads to inconveniences like noise complaints between neighbors and various other limitations.
