Visiting the Blue House.
The Blue House, or Cheong Wa Dae, is named for its blue tiled roof. Korea's presidents have lived in the Blue House since the launch of the Korean government in 1948. And on May 10th of this year, it was opened to the public.
I lucked out and was chosen in an online lottery to take a tour of the Blue House myself. The top attraction was the main building, which used to house the presidential office. Another interesting part was the Yeongbin-gwan reception hall, where banguets were held for visiting dignitaries. Finallly, I also got to see the living quarters of the president's family, as well as the Chungchu-gwan press hall for reporters.
I hope that the opening of the Blue House will serve as an opportunity for many people to experience Korea's modern history in the flesh.
청와대 관람기.
청와대는 파란색 기와 지붕을 본떠 명명되었다. 1948년 대한민국 정부 수립 이후 줄곧 우리나라의 대통령들은 청와대에서 거주했다. 이 청와대가 올해 5월 10일 일반 대중에게 전격 개방 되었다.
나는 온라인 추첨에서 운 좋게 당첨되어 청와대를 직접 관람 할 수 있었다. 주요 관람 명소는 대통령의 집무 공간이었던 본관이었다. 더불어 국빈 방문 시 대규모 연회를 진행했던 영빈관도 흥미로운 관람 장소 였다. 마지막으로, 대통령 가족들이 생활하던 관저와 언론사 기자들이 출입하던 춘추관도 볼 수 있었다.
나는 이번 청와대 개방이 많은 사람들이 우리나라의 현대사를 직접 체험할 수 있는 기회로 이어졌으면 좋겠다.
