Living without a car.(뚜벅이 인생)
I have a driver's license, but I can't drive a car because I'm as blind as a bat. I'm especially scared of driving at night, because I can't see a thing. Ever since my husband had a near miss in the car a while ago, it's been gathering dust in the parking lot.
So, whenever the two of us go anywhere, we go on foot. We use public transport like buses, trains, and taxis when we travel. And when we visit a large supermarket, we can't buy in bulk.
To be honest, having to walk everywhere can be a hassle. Our lesgs often hurt and have to go searching around for bus stops. But not having to drive is both convenient and safe. Plus, all that walking means we get plenty of exercise. Even so, we can't walk everywhere forever, especially as we get on in years. That's why we can't wait for the time when self-driving cars finally become widespread.
나는 운전면허가 있지만 시력이 너무 안 좋아서 운전을 하지 못한다. 특히 밤에는 앞이 잘 안보여서 운전이 너무 무섭다. 얼마전에 신랑마저 사고가 날 뻔한 이후로, 차를 주차장에 고이 모셔두고 있다.
그래서 우리 부부는 어디를 가나 뚜벅이로 다닌다. 여행을 가도 버스, 기차, 택시 등의 대중교통을 이용한다. 대형마트에 가도 물건을 대량으로 구매하지 못한다.
사실 여기저기 뚜벅이로 다니는 것이 불편할 때도 있다. 다리가 아플 때도 많고 버스 정류장도 찾아 다녀야 한다. 하지만 운전하지 않아도 되니 편하고 안전하다. 게다가 그렇게 걸으면 충분한 운동이 되기도 한다. 그렇다고 해도, 나이가 들면 모든 곳을 영원한 뚜벅이로 다닐 수 없다. 그래서 우리 부부는 자율주행차가 곧 상용화되기를 간절히 바라고 있다.
