A: 오늘 주식시장은 어때?
B: 어제보다는 약간 나아졌어. ABC사의 주식이 10프로 올랐어.
A: 그래, 장이 하락세에서 상승세로 가고 있다고 하더라.
B: 내 주식 투자에 행운을 빌어 줘!

<말문을 여는 패턴>

1. gain ~ (~을 얻어요)

I've gained so much weight in just a few months.
That nominee gained so much support from fans.
The company gained more than 20 points.

불과 몇 달 사이에 체중이 많이 불었어요.
그 후보는 팬들로부터 많은 지지를 얻었지요.
그 회사가 20포인트보다 더 얻었어요.

2. go from ~ to ~ (~였다가 ~로 변하다)

So he went from obscurity to fame.
She went from rags to riches.
The situation went from bad to worse.

그러니까 그 분은 무명에서 유명인으로 변한 거예요.
그녀는 아주 가난했다가 부자가 된거죠.
상황이 안 좋았는데 더욱 안 좋아졌죠.

Level 2. 이지 잉글리쉬.

<대화>

A: Is it a one-time job or a regular one?
B: Theoretically, it's once a week.
A: Then why not? You'll be able to do other things then.
B: But I found out it's more work than expected. On top of that, they want a 2-year commitment.
A: If I were you, I'd say no.
B: That's what I'm thinking.

A: 일회성 일이야, 아니면 정기적인 거야?
B: 이론상으로는 주 1회야.
A: 그럼 나쁠거 없잖아? 그럼 다른 일도 할 수 있을 거고.
B: 하지만 예상보다 일이 많다는 걸 알았어. 더구나 2년 동안 해 주기를 바라더라고.

<말하기 패턴>

Level 3. 입트영.

<문장>

Talk about school zones.

School zones are another name for child protection zones. The designation is given to areas with a high density of facilities for children under 13years old. These include schools or privates academies, as well as areas within 300m of major school routes. It is a policy aimed at preventing traffiic accidents by securing safe areas for children to get to school. It was implemented in the road traffic laws in 1995, and beefed up in 2020.

Cars in school zones must obey the speed limit of 30Km/h. Going over the speed limit, parking illegally, or running a red light in these areas will double the fine and penalty points compared to other areas. A traffic accident in these areas will also result in heavier penalty. Residents can also report violations using an app.

스쿨 존에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

스쿨 존은 일명 어린이 보호 구역을 말한다. 주로 만 13세 미만 어린이를 위한 시설이 밀집되어 있는 지역에 지정된다. 학교나 학원뿐만 아니라 주 통학로 300미터 이내 지역도 포함된다. 스쿨 존은 어린이들의 안전한 통학 공간을 확보함으로써 교통사고를 예방하기 위한 제도이다. 1995년에 도로 교통법으로 도입되었고 2020년에 강화되었다.

스쿨 존에서 차량은 시속 30킬로미터의 제한 속도를 준수해야 한다. 이 구역에서의 제한 속도위반, 불법 주정차, 신호 위반 등은 다른 구역에 비해 범칙금과 벌점이 두 배로 부과된다. 또한 이 구역에서 교통사고 발생 시 더 무거운 처벌을 받는다. 주민들도 앱을 통해 위반 사항을 신고할 수 있다.
