Talk about the changing culture of weddings.

The culture of weddings in Korea is changing dramatically these days. In the past, inviting lots of guests for a lavish wedding was the norm. But ever since a few years ago, more people have been choosing small weddings. Only family, relatives, and close acquaintances are invited to these weddings.

Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have upped the pace for these changes in wedding customs. Even when the crisis comes to an end, these changes will likely continue. It's because people's view on weddings themselves have begun to change.

The true meaning of a wedding is to tell people that you will be spending the rest of your life with your spause, and to be congratulated. But more and more people don't think it is necessary to spend a lot of time and money just for one day.

변화하는 결혼식 문화에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

요즘 우리나라의 결혼 문화가 크게 달라지고 있다. 예전에는 많은 하객을 초대하여 성대하게 결혼식을 치르는 것이 일반적이었다. 하지만 몇 년 전부터 스몰 웨딩을 하는 사람들이 늘고 있다. 스몰 웨딩에는 가족과 친척, 가까운 지인들만 초대된다.

코로나 19 확산 방지 조치들로 인해 결혼식 문화의 이러한 변화는 더욱 가속화되었다. 사태가 종식되어도 이 변화는 계속될 것으로 보인다. 결혼식에 대한 사람들의 인식 자체가 바뀌기 시작했기 때문이다.

결혼식의 진정한 의미는 배우자와 앞으로 평생을 함께할 것임을 사람들에게 알리고 축하를 받는 것이다. 그러나 결혼식 단 하루를 위해 많은 시간과 돈을 들일 필요는 없다고 생각하는 사람들이 많아지고 있다.
