As information technology continues to forge ahead, more and more servieces are being offered by way of digital platforms. The trend picked up more speed during the COVID-19 situation.
As a result, more and more people are finding work in related fields. Delivery workers and substitute drivers who work through these platform services are called platform-mediated workers, or platform workers.
But people in this line of work aren't covered by the four major insurance schemes. Plus, they aren't protected by labor laws. If they get hurt on the job, they have to pay out of pocket for treatment.
The reality is that policies for platform workers are still sorely lacking. I hope that their poor working conditions will be improved in the future.
