Talk about what you had to do to get into college.
대학 진학을 위해서 무엇을 해야 했는지 이야기해 주세요.

 

[Response]

I had to prepare in many ways to get into college. To be accepted to this college of my choice, I needed to maintain a high GPA throughout my three years of high school. I remember staying up late to study for midterms and finals. During my senior year of high school, I had to prepare a lot for the scholastic ability test. After school, I went to private academies. I applied to three colleges, but I got rejected from my top-choice school.

 

[해석]

대학에 진학하기 위해서 여러 가지를 준비해야 했다. 원하는 대학에 진학하기 위해서 고등학교 3년 내내 높은 내신 성적을 유지해야 했다. 중간고사, 기말고사 때 밤늦게까지 공부를 했던 기억이 난다. 고등학교 3학년 때는 수능 시험에 대비하기 위해 많은 준비를 해야 했다. 학교가 끝나면 학원에 다녔다. 3개의 대학에 지원서를 냈는데, 가장 가고 싶었던 대학은 불합격했다.

[Response]

I majored in engineering in college. Even freshman year courses in my major were difficult. I had to hit the books until late at night at the library. After I finished my sophomore year, I entered military service. Starting in my junior year, I also had to get ready for job hunting. To buy myself time to study, I took a year off before graduation. I worked part-time to save some money while I prepared for work. Thankfully, I landed a job at a company of high standing straight out of college.

 

[해석]

나는 대학에서 공학을 전공했다. 1학년 때부터 전공 관련 수업들은 상당히 어려웠다. 도서관에서 밤늦게까지 공부를 해야 했다. 2학년을 마치고 군대를 갔다. 3학년 때부터는 취업 준비도 해야 했다. 공부할 시간을 가지려고 졸업을 앞두고 1년간 휴학을 하기도 했다. 취업을 준비하는 동안 아르바이트를 하며 돈을 좀 모았다. 다행히도 졸업하자마자 이름 있는 기업에 취업이 되었다.
