Talk about how pet owners can be considerate of other people.

반려동물의 주인이 다른 사람들을 배려할 수 있는 방법에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

 

[Model Response]

The number of people with companion animals is growing exponentially, and the number of related problems is doing likewise. Pet-owners love their pets, but some people are scared of animals or dislike them. It's necessary to be considerate of these people. A few months ago, a person passed away after being bitten by a neighbor's dog. Also, larger dogs often bite and injure other dogs. When heading out with a dog, it's important to keep the dog on a leash. Owners should train dogs not to bite people, and to refrain from barking. Holding a dog in elevators is one way to prevent inconveniencing others. When living in an apartment, a dog's barking can be a thorn in the side of the neighbors. Dogs should be trained not to bark when night falls. Also, owners should pick up after their dogs when taking them for a walk.

반려동물을 키우는 인구가 기하급수적으로 증가하다 보니, 이에 따른 문제들도 증가 추세에 있다. 주인들은 자신의 반려동물을 사랑하지만, 동물을 무서워하거나 싫어하는 사람들도 있으므로 이들에 대해 배려할 필요가 있다. 몇 달 전에 이웃의 반려견에 물려서 사망하는 사고까지 발생한 적이 있다. 또 큰 반려견이 다른 반려견을 물어서 다치게 하는 경우도 흔히 발생하고 있다. 그래서 반려견을 밖에 데리고 나갈 때는 반드시 목줄을 해야 한다. 주인은 반려견이 다른 사람들을 물지 못하게 하고, 짖지 않도록 훈련시켜야 한다. 엘리베이터에서는 개를 안고 있는 것이 남들에 대한 피해를 예방할 수 있는 한 방법이다. 아파트에서 반려견을 키우는 경우, 개가 짖는 소리는 이웃에게 골칫거리가 될 수도 있다. 그래서 밤이 되면 개가 짖지 않도록 훈련시켜야 한다. 또한, 개를 산책시킬 때는 반드시 개의 배설물을 수거해야 한다.

pick up after 
~의 뒷정리를 하다 / 배설물을 치우다

이 표현은 대상이 누구인지에 따라 의미가 다소 달라진다. 사람의 경우 머물렀던 자리를 정리 정돈하는 것을 뜻하지만, 반려동물은 쓰레기 등을 버리는 경우가 사실상 없기 때문에 배설물을 치우는 것을 뜻한다.

 

예) I had to pick up after my son because he had made a mess. (아들이 어질러 놓아서 내가 뒷정리를 해야 했다.)
Most people in the park pick up after their pets. (공원에 있는 대부분의 사람들이 반려동물의 배설물을 치운다.)
