B: I know. Last night someone was laughing really loudly in the hallway at 1 a.m.
A: I can't take it anymore. I'm calling the front desk.
(talking to a hotel employee) Hi, could you send someone up? It's really noisy on our floor.

A: 어후, 또 엄청 시끄럽네. 아니 왜 사람들이 호텔에서 그렇게 시끄럽게 말하는 거지?
B: 그러게 말이야. 어젯밤에는 어떤 사람이 복도에서 새벽 1시에 정말 큰 소리로 웃더라고.
A: 더 이상은 아 되겠다. 프런트에 전화해야지.
(호텔 직원과 통화) 여보세요. 여기 누구 좀 올려 보내 주시겠어요? 이 층이 정말 시끄러워서요.

<말하기 연습>
When I was younger, I remember wtching my boss read reports with his glasses pushed up on his forehead and wondering, "Will I end up like that, too?" And now, it seems I've reached that point myself. Back then, I could read reports in font size 10 without any trouble. But these days, even size 14 looks blurry.
지금보다 젊은 시절, 직장 상사가 안경을 이마에 올리고 보고서를 읽는 모습을 보면서 "나도 저렇게 될까"하는 생각을 했던 것이 떠오른다. 그러나 어느새 나도 그 무렵이 된 것 같다. 젊을 때는 폰트 사이즈 10인 보고서도 별 문제없이 잘 읽었다. 그런데 이젠 14 폰트로 된 보고서도 흐릿하게 보인다.

When I wake up early and try to read an e-book on my phone, I can barely make out the letters. I've been taking supplements like lutein and eating blueberries for a few years to slow down my farsightedness, but I guess there's no winning against time.
새벽에 기상해서 휴대폰으로 e-book을 보려면 글자를 식별하기가 힘들다. 노안을 늦추기 위해 몇 해 전부터 루테인 같은 보충제와 블루베리 등을 열심히 먹고 있는데도, 세월 앞에는 장사가 없는 듯 싶다.

I started using e-books to save resources and protect the environment, but now I am printing them out so I can read them. I feel bad because that defeats the purpose. To return to my original intention, I'm thinking of switching to a phone with a bigger screen.
자원 절약과 환경 보호에 기여하고자 e-book을 선택했는데, 이제는 e-book을 프린트해야 읽을 수 있다니 대의가 퇴색되는 듯하여 씁씁하다. 그래도 본래 취지를 이어가야 하기에 보다 큰 화면의 휴대폰으로 교체할까 생각을 해 본다.

B: 가끔 눈을 쉬게 해 주고 싶어도 그게 말처럼 쉽지가 않아요.
