Talk about tropical fruit.
The durian is polarzing because it stinks so badly. I was recently surprised to see durians on sale at my local grocery store. It was once a tropical fruit that you could olny get a taste of while traveling in Southeast Asia. Now I can easily get my hands on it in my own neighborhood.
My favorite tropical fruit is the jackfruit. Its characteristic aroma is very sweet. It has a chewy mouthfeel, and it's crisp. It's also rich in nutrients.
Just a few years ago, you couldn't even lay eyes on tropical fruits like mangos, rambutans, lychees, and papayas in Korea. But nowadays, they are relatively easy to find. I hope that even more types of tropical fruits will become readily available to enjoy.
두리안은 냄새가 너무 지독해서 호불호가 분명하게 갈립니다. 저는 최근에 동네 마트에서 두리안을 파는 것을 보고 놀랐습니다. 한 때는 동남아 여행을 가야만 맛볼 수 있었던 열대 과일이었는데, 이제는 동네에서도 쉽게 구할 수 있습니다.
제가 좋아하는 열대 과일은 잭프루트입니다. 특유의 달콤한 향이 있고, 식감이 쫄깃쫄깃하며 아삭아삭합니다. 또한 각종 영양소가 풍부하게 함유되어 있습니다.
불과 몇 년 전만 해도 망고, 람부탄, 리치, 파파야 등과 같은 열대 과일은 한국에서 구경도 할 수 없었습니다. 그런데 요즘은 비교적 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 앞으로도 손쉽게 즐길 수 있는 열대 과일의 종류가 훨씬 더 많아졌으면 좋겠습니다.
