Talk about the traditional Korean yut game.
Yutnori, or the yut game, is a traditional folk game of Korea that uses four wooden sticks called yut. The yut acts as dice. Two teams take it in turns to throw the yut, and move their four pieces on the board according to the result. The first team that sends all four piecies through the finish line is the victor.
Player can take out the opposing team's pieces, or move several pieces at once in the yut game. By marking a stick as a "back do" on the back side, a piece can move back a space when only that stick has turned over. These rules make it impossible to predict the end result, so you have to stay on your toes until the very end.
For his kindergarden vacation, I went with my son to buy a yut game set at a stationery store. I explanined in detail the rules of the game, and played it with my son for the first time. It was a bundle of laughs. When he won, he was so happy that he jumped around, and he choked back tears when he lost. It felt like seeing myself when I was a little boy.
한국의 전통 윷놀이에 대해 이야기해 주세요.
윷놀이는 윶이라고 부르는 나무 막대 4개를 사용하는 우리나라 전통 민속놀이이다. 윶은 주사위 역활을 한다. 두팀이 교대로 윶을 던져 나온 결과에 따라 4개의 말을 게임판 위에서 움직인다. 4개의 말이 최종점을 통과하는 팀이 승리하게 된다.
윶놀이에서는 상대편의 말을 잡을 수 있고, 여러 개의 말들을 동시에 움직일 수 있다. 한 개의 윷 뒷면에 "백 도"를 표시하면, 그 윶만 뒤집혔을 때 한 칸 뒤고 갈 수도 있다. 이러한 규칙들이 최종 결과를 예측할 수 없게 만들기 때문에 끝까지 긴장을 놓으면 안 된다.
유치원 방학을 맞이하여 아들과 문구점에 가서 윶놀이를 샀다. 아이에게 놀이 방법을 자세히 설명해 준 뒤 처음으로 윷놀이를 했는데, 그렇게 재미있을 수가 없었다. 아이는 이겼을 때는 기뻐서 방방 뛰었고 졌을 때는 울음을 참기도 했다. 마치 어린 시절의 내 모습을 보는 것 같았다.
