<문장>

Talk about innovation schools.

An innovation school is an autonomous school with a curriculum focusing on reativity, based on a democratic school management system. The primary goal is to teach students life skills through this educational system.

Our daughter attends an innovation school. Most classes revolve around projects. During Korean classes, the sudents debate over specific topics. The students each speak their mind, and learn to respect the opinions of others. For social studies, they do research on their towns and present the results. In English class, they momorize lines in English and put on a play.

I think the students can receive a real-life education this way, rather than getting stressed out over a heavy workload. But since they aren't given as much work as in ordinary schools, I do worry as a parent that they might fall behind academically.

혁신 학교에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

혁신 학교란 민주적인 학교 운영 체제를 기반으로 창의적 교육 과정을 강조하는 자율 학교이다. 이러한 교육 체계를 통해 학생들에게 실제 삶의 역량을 가르쳐 주는 것이 주된 목표이다.

우리 딸은 혁신 학교를 다니는데, 대부분의 수업이 프로젝트를 중심으로 진행된다. 국어 시간에는 특정 주제에 대해 토론을 한다. 학생들은 각자 자신의 의견을 이야기하고, 다른 사람의 의견을 존중하는 태도를 배운다. 사회 시간에는 자기 고장에 대해 조사를 하고 그 결과를 발표한다. 영어 시간에는 각자 영어 대사를 외워 연극을 한다.

학생들이 과도한 학습량에 스트레스를 받는 것보다 이런 방식으로 살아 있는 교육을 받을 수 있는 것같다. 하지만 공부를 일반 학교만큼 시키지 않기 때문에, 부모로서 학업에 뒤처질 수 있다는 걱정이 들기도 한다.
