Due to financial difficulties in my family, I had to start working immediately after graduating from college. After working for 8 years, I transferred to a position in Seoul. But I began to feel regretful that I couldn't continue my studies because of those financial difficulties.
저는 어려운 집안 형편으로 인해 대학교를 졸업하자마자 바로 취업을 해야 했습니다. 8년간 근무한 후에 서울로 근무지를 옮기게 되었습니다. 그런데 어려운 형편 때문에 학업을 이어 가지 못한 점이 아쉽다는 생각이 들었습니다.
So, after many twists and turns, I applied to grad school and was accepted. Fortunately, my mother-in-law kindly offered to take care of my child, so I could rely on her on the days I had classes.
그래서 우여곡절 끝에 대학원에 지원하여 합격하였습니다. 다행히도 시어머니께서 흔쾌히 아이를 봐 주겠다고 하셔서, 수업이 있는 날에는 믿고 맡길 수 있었습니다.
It was physically exhausting because | had to attend classes until 10 p.m. after finishing work. Then, I would come home and wake up early again the next day to prepare for work. I had to do assignments and do test prep on weekends, so I had less time to spend with my family.
퇴근 후 밤 10시까지 수업을 들어야 했기 때문에 체력적으로 힘이 들었습니다. 그러고는 집에 와서 다음날 새벽에 일어나 다시 출근 준비를 해야 했습니다. 주말에는 과제와 시험 공부를 하느라, 가족과 함께하는 시간을 줄일 수밖에 없었습니다.
After two and a half years, I finally had my graduation ceremony. I feel proud that I was able to show my child that "Mom can do it."
그렇게 2년 반의 시간이 지나고 드디어 학위 수여식을 하게 되었습니다. 아이에게 '엄마는 할 수 있다.'는 모습을 보여 준 것 같아서 뿌듯합니다.
