Talk about national holidays.

Any desk jockey will welcome a day off on the calendar. Of cause, sometimes we have to go to work even on a national holiday, but a red date on the calendar is still a mood lifter. That's why at the turn of the year, we always flip through the new calendar to see how many holidays there are.

Thankfully, a substitute holiday policy was put into effect in 2021. It means that if a holiday coincides with a weekend, we get another day off. I'm excited to have the Independence Movement Day holiday this March, as well as the Presidential Election Day holiday.

My parents are retired. Whenever they see me get hung up on holiday, they tell me that I should be grateful to be going to work. In the future, I may look back fondly on my current work routine. But as someone with a heavy workload right now, the truth is that any day off is a welcome respite.

공휴일에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

직장인이라면 누구나 달력의 쉬는 날을 반길것이다. 물론 공유일임에도 일하러 가야하는 날이 가끔 있긴 하지만, 달력에 빨간 날짜가 있으면 왠지 기분이 좋아진다. 그래서 새해를 앞둔 시점에는 새 달력을 넘기며 휴일이 며칠이나 있는지 확인을 한다.

다행히 2021년에는 대체 공휴일제도가 시행되었다. 이는 공휴일이 주말과 겹칠 경우 하루를 추가로 쉬는 것을 의미한다. 올해 3월에는 삼일절도 있고, 대통령 선거 공휴일도 있어서 너무 좋다.

은퇴하신 부모님께서는 휴일만 바라보는 내 모습을 보실 때마다 회사다니는 것을 감사해야한다고 말씀하신다. 나도 언젠가 매일 출퇴근하는 지금을 그리워 할 수도 있다. 하지만 지금 당장 과중한 업무 부담에 시달리는 직장인 입장에서는 휴일은 언제든지 반가운 휴식인 것이 사실이다.
