Talk about traditional Korean polychrome paintings.

We can categorize paintings as Korean or Western. Roughly speaking, the difference between the two comes down to surfaces and lines Western painting place an emphasis on surfaces. Wide brushes are used to fill all areas. In contrast, Korean ink paintings emphasize lines. Finer bruches are used, playing up the beauty of blank space.

Korea has polychrome paintings as well. They use solid pigments, which are ground up and mixed water of fill the spaces. Usually, they are drawn on thinck paper. Folk paintings, which are familiar to us, are type of polychrome painting. Modern Korean colored paintings are not that different from Western ones. At a casual glance, it's hard to tell the difference.

한국의 전통 채색화에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

우리는 그림을 한국화와 서양화로 구분할 수 있다. 대략적으로 둘의 차이점은 면과 선에 있다. 서양화는 면을 중시한다. 넓은 붓을 사용해 모든 면을 채색한다. 반면, 한국의 수묵화는 선을 강조한다. 

물론 한국에도 채색화가 있다. 한국 채색화는 고체 안료를 갈아 물과 섞어서 면을 채운다. 주로 두꺼운 종이(장지)에 그리게 된다. 우리가 잘 아는 민화도 채색화의 한 종류이다. 현대 한국 채색화는 서양화와 그다지 다르지 않다. 얼핏 보기에는 한국화인지 서양화인지 구별하기가 쉽지 않다.
