Talk about the military reserve forces.

Technically speaking , Korea is still at war. We are in an armistice. That's why Korean men have to do mandatory military service for about two years. But even after being discharged from the military, their military duty isn't over.

​Discharged soldiers remain active as members of a reserve forces unit. These reserve forces can be mobilized in case of emergency. Reserve soldiers must receive reserve forces training each year. The training lasts 1 to 3 days. They brush up their battle-readiness and prevent their military skills from getting rusty. The training that a soldier receives is different depending on how many years have passed since he was discharged.

The training can be a pain in the neck for individuals, but it is necessary. The reserve forces are an integral part in maintaining Korea's military strength.

​예비군에 대해서 이야기해 주세요.

​엄밀히 말해서 한반도는 아직 전쟁 중이며 휴전 상태에 있다. 그래서 대한민국 남성들은 대략 2년 간의 의무 군 복무를 해야 한다. 그러나 군 복무를 마치고 전역하더라도, 국방의 의무가 완전히 끝나는 것은 아니다.

전역 군인은 예비군 부대의 소속으로 활동하게 된다. 이러한 예비군은 유사시에 병력으로 동원될 수 있다. 예비군은 매년 짧게는 하루, 길게는 3일간의 훈련을 받아야 한다. 전투 준비 태세를 가다듬고 군인으로서의 능력이 녹슬지 않도록 한다. 전역한 지 몇 년이 지났는지에 따라 받아야 하는 훈련이 달라진다.
